Entrepreneurship: Eleni Chatzi honored by students

The ETH Entrepreneur Club and the ETH AI Center present an annual award for professors who promote and facilitate talented people to take the leap into entrepreneurship: the "Dandelion Entrepreneurship Award". This year, D-BAUG professor Eleni Chatzi is among the winners. Nominations were made in the departments by students, doctoral candidates and postdocs. Congratulations, Eleni!

Eleni Chatzi is an expert in Structural Health Monitoring of engineered systems and infrastructure. She obtained her PhD from Columbia University in 2010 and assumed, a few months later, an Assistant Professor position at D-BAUG at ETH Zurich. In 2017, she was promoted to Associate Professor and Chair of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring (SMM).

Chatzi is the recipient of an ERC Starting Grant (2015) and of the ASCE Walter L. Huber Research prize for her work in the domain of self-aware infrastructure (2020). She is the co-founder of the ETH spin-off RTDT, which is a cloud-based platform for monitoring, diagnostics, and digital twining of wind turbine structures and fleets – in essence, a wind turbine doctor.

The external pageRTDT effort is led by Dr. Imad Abdallah and Dr. Konstantinos Tatsis of the SMM group. Chatzi’s research group is a hub for further spin-off activities, including external pageSeismohealth (by Panagiotis Martakis), which recently won the second stage of external pageVenture Kick.
