Continuing education programmes at D-BAUG renewed
The ETH Corporate Board has approved the new 2023 regulations for continuing education programmes at D-BAUG in geographic information systems and analysis as well as spatial planning. These will go into effect on 1 January 2023.
Missed the E-Bike City Kick-off? No worries!
On 23 November 2022, the Kick-off Symposium dedicated to the D-BAUG lighthouse project "E-Bike City" took place. More than 150 participants attended the event and contributed to a lively discussion following the input talks by speakers from practice and research. An eye on reconstruction in Ukraine
Ukrainian building materials professor Viacheslav Troian left his homeland with his family because of the war. At D-BAUG at ETH Zurich, he is researching the role that recycled concrete might play in future reconstruction in collaboration with professors Robert Flatt and Ueli Angst.
AI enables more effective humanitarian action
Researchers from ETH Zurich and EPFL, working together with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (Qatar), have developed a program that can generate population density estimates with unparalleled precision. The aim is to make humanitarian missions more effective. The project is led by professors Konrad Schindler and Devis Tuia.

Francesco Corman promoted to Associate Professor
At its meeting of 7 and 8 December 2022 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board appointed four professors, including Francesco Corman who is promoted to Associate Professor of Transportation Systems at D-BAUG.
SNSF Starting Grant for David Kammer
David Kammer, D-BAUG Assistant Professor for Computational Mechanics of Building Materials, has received a Starting Grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). With this award for outstanding young researchers, the SNSF supports Kammer's research on computational and applied mechanics with around 1.7 million Swiss francs. Congratulations!
Robert Boes receives Golden Owl
Every year, the student association of ETH Zurich recognizes particularly dedicated and inspiring lecturers with a "Golden Owl". At D-BAUG, the teaching award 2022 goes to Robert Boes, professor of hydraulic engineering at the Laboratory of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology (VAW). Congratulations!
Sensors and actuators made from wood may be the green electronics of the future
Sustainable electronic components can be made from wood with the help of a novel process that uses a laser to engrave electrically conductive structures on veneers. A research team at ETH's Institute for Building Materials and at Empa has developed a practical and versatile method for making wooden surfaces electrically conductive.
