2021 curriculum

The 2021 curriculum applies to all students who enter the Master’s degree programme from Autumn Semester 2021 onwards.

The Master’s degree in Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems provides an academic education for planners and managers working with the constructed spatial environment and its infrastructure systems.

The Master's degree programme comprises compulsory courses, specialist courses and elective courses. In addition, there is a mandatory semester paper in the form of interdisciplinary group project work. On conclusion of the course, students write a Master’s thesis in their final semester which leads to the degree.

The ETH Zurich awards successful students the degree of "Master of Science ETH in Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems".

Students compile an individual curriculum together with their tutor which ensures solid academic training with relevance to practice, and also takes into account the expectations and talents of the individual student.

The Master’s degree programme is a full-time programme comprising 120 ECTS credits. It normally takes two years. The degree request must be made no later than four years after studies began.

One academic year at ETH comprises two semesters, each lasting 14 weeks.

The language of instruction in the Master’s degree programme in Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems is English. This means that all compulsory courses are taught in English. However, please note that the range of specialisation and elective courses includes courses which are partially in German and partially in English. This applies to the area of Spatial Planning and Landscape Development in particular, where courses relating to Switzerland (especially those addressing spatial planning, law, design, site and project development and regional economy) are usually taught in German.

Before you apply it is essential to check carefully whether the range of courses matches your requirements. For information on the teaching language of all lectures please see the course catalogue.
