Two new "Professors of Practice"
The ETH Board has appointed several professors at the request of ETH President Joël Mesot, including two "Professors of Practice" for the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering.

Philipp Häfliger (*1969), currently Project Manager at Frutiger AG in Thun and CEO of his own start-up LHTC Group GmbH in Bern, as Professor of Practice in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering. Philipp Häfliger has 30 years of management experience on major national and international infrastructure construction projects, and also spent several years as a member of the management board of a mechanical engineering company specialising in construction site logistics. As a Professor of Practice, Philipp Häfliger will assume a managerial and teaching function for the newly established CAS ETH in Infrastructure Construction Management. He will perform a key bridging function between academic research and the construction industry, as well as further strengthening ETH Zurich's reputation as a leading institution for training and research in the field of infrastructure construction.

Dr Hermann Patrick Braess (*1979), currently Technical Director and Head of Research and Development at TrackNet Holding Group (Tensol Rail SA and EFSA SA), as Professor of Practice in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering. Hermann Patrick Braess is a well-regarded expert on railway infrastructure whose career bridges the gap between rigorous scientific research and practical technical leadership. In view of current challenges such as urbanisation, climate change and infrastructure renewal, there is a growing demand for engineers with technical and practical skills. As a professor of practice, Hermann Patrick Braess will ensure the continuity and expansion of this important training area and strengthen links with industry.
Professors of Practice
At the request of the President, the ETH Board may award the title of Professor of Practice to experts who have broad professional experience and are recruited for a targeted practice-oriented expansion of the teaching programs. The selection criteria include in particular, in addition to proven practical experience at management level and, if applicable, expertise in research and development, interest in the education of students and involvement in academic initiatives as well as knowledge and technology transfer between the university and practice.
