SETAC Award for Stefanie Hellweg

Stefanie Hellweg, D-BAUG Professor for Ecological Systems Design, has been awarded the SETAC Europe Award for Lifetime Achievement in Life Cycle Assessment. The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) recognizes her outstanding contributions in promoting life cycle thinking and improving LCA approaches. Congratulations, Stefanie!
From Student to Professor

Stephan Pfister has been at ETH Zurich for more than 20 years – first as a student and then as an expert in environmental engineering. On the occasion of his promotion to titular professor at D-BAUG, we asked him what currently drives him in research and teaching.
This researcher reads rivers

Jessica Droujko’s start-up, Riverkin, measures the water quality of freshwater ecosystems and helps quantify and respond to risks such as floods and pollution. Thanks to an ETH Pioneer Fellowship, her work is now picking up speed.
Digital twin for safety training

Researchers at ETH Zurich are working with Lufthansa Aviation Training to develop a complete replica of an Airbus aircraft. This digital twin will be used for safety and emergency training of cabin and cockpit crews in virtual reality. The project partners are Martin Raubal, Professor of Geoinformation Engineering, and Peter Kiefer, Head of geoGAZElab, from the ETH-Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering.
GDK Spotlight Seminar Series

On 25 June 2024, the D-BAUG Gender and Diversity Commission (GDK) invites you to the third edition of the Spotlight Seminar Series. The series focuses on outstanding female engineers who are tackling the most important challenges of our time – this time with a focus on geospatial modelling. Registration is requested.

QS Ranking: Civil and Structural Engineering at ETH Zurich in Top 5

According to the 2024 World University Rankings by Subject of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), ETH Zurich is ranked 5th in the world in the category "Civil and Structural Engineering". The ETH Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG) thus confirms its top position from previous years. D-BAUG was also ranked 5th in 2023 and 7th in 2022. Congratulations!
Using radar to study glaciers

ETH researchers led by Professor Irena Hajnsek are using radar to scan the snow and ice on the Jungfraujoch. Sometimes, scaling an icy peak is the only way for scientists to fully understand satellite data.
Towards healthy air

Professor Jing Wang conducts basic and applied research in the field of air quality and its impact on human health and the environment. On the occasion of his promotion to Full Professor of Air Quality and Particle Technology in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, we asked what drives him in research and teaching.
The mystery of cathodic corrosion protection clarified

Cathodic corrosion protection is a widely used technique for protecting steel-based infrastructure from corrosion. ETH researchers have now clarified the detailed mechanisms involved, thereby resolving a controversial issue that had preoccupied the engineering community for decades.
