Ziegelindustrie Schweiz supports research and teaching in the field of masonry
With a generous donation, Ziegelindustrie Schweiz (the association of Swiss brickworks) is facilitating the establishment of an inter-university group for research and teaching in the field of structural masonry at ETH Zurich and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
The support from Ziegelindustrie Schweiz plays a key role in ensuring the training of civil engineers and strengthening Switzerland as a centre for research in the field of structural masonry. Led by Dr Marius Weber, the group will engage in teaching and research at the Chair of Concrete Structures and Bridge Design at the ETH Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering and at the Institute of Civil Engineering at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts simultaneously.

Against the backdrop of increasing decarbonisation of the Swiss construction industry and of the Swiss building stock, as well as the growing importance of sustainable building materials, clay has enormous potential as a domestically produced, natural and tried-and-tested building material. It’s vital that we maintain and further develop this potential for future generations,” says Michael Fritsche, President of Ziegelindustrie Schweiz.
