New Head of Department at D-BAUG

On 1 August 2023, Professor Ioannis Anastasopoulos took up his position as the new Head of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at ETH Zurich. He will be supported by Professors Bryan T. Adey and Eleni Chatzi, who have been acting as Deputy and Delegate in the department's executive committee since 2022. A warm welcome and all the best!

Ioannis Anastasopoulos

Ioannis Anastasopoulos has been Full Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at ETH Zurich since 2016. He specialises in geotechnical earthquake engineering and soil-structure interaction, combining numerical and experimental methods. He is the head of the Geotechnical Centrifuge Center, one of Europe’s leading experimental facilities for physical modelling of complex soil processes and the effects of natural hazards on critical infrastructure. His academic degrees include a Doctorate from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), an MSc from Purdue University, and a Diploma in Civil Engineering from NTUA.

Deputy Head of Department

bryan adey

Bryan T. Adey has been Full Professor of Infrastructure Management at ETH Zurich since 2018. His research focuses on the automation of infrastructure management in relation to roads, rail networks, waterways, water distribution networks and multiple infrastructure networks in urban areas. His academic degrees include a Doctorate from EPFL, an MSc from the University of Alberta and a BEng from Dalhousie University, Halifax.

Department Delegate

Eleni Chatzi

Eleni Chatzi has been Associate Professor of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring at ETH Zurich since 2017. Her research focuses on Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) methods and tools, the hybrid use of data and models for digital twinning and virtualization of structures and infrastructures, and the data-driven decision support of engineered systems. Her academic degrees include a PhD from Columbia University, and an MSc and Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
