Leading position in Shanghai Ranking
D-BAUG is top ranked in three disciplines in the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2021 (Shanghai Ranking): It is ranked world leader in the field of "Water Resources Engineering". In the fields of "Civil Engineering" and "Environmental Science & Engineering", the department achieves a 2nd and a 3rd place.
The "Global Raking of Academic Subjects 2021" ranks institutions in 54 subjects in the natural sciences, engineering, medical sciences, life sciences and social sciences. Over 4,000 universities were evaluated in total. ETH Zurich is currently ranked 20th in the overall evaluation, as already last year.
The ranking by disciplines is a sub-ranking of the "Academic Ranking of World Universities", which annually assesses the scientific impact of universities. This impact is measured on the basis of six indicators in the categories "quality of education", "quality of academic staff" and "research output ". Furthermore, the size of the respective institution is also assessed as an indicator of performance in general.
