Fostering place-making through emotions

The current issue of ETH’s Globe Magazine discusses two research projects of Adrienne Grêt-Regamey, Chair of Planning Landscape and Urban Systems. She aims at advancing knowledge on how the interactions of humans with their environments shape landscapes and vice versa.

Commercial interests often dictate landscape development. This often results in uniform, international landscapes. The research of Professor Grêt-Regamey shows how people perceive changes in the landscape and react emotionally to them. She uses these insights to develop new instruments for sustainable landscape development. The goal is to promote resilient landscapes under growing globalization – these are landscapes that also appeal to the senses, not just the mind.
