Understanding microbial interactions in environmental and human health

Professor Roman Stocker’s group of the Institute of Environmental Engineering is part of the new National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) "Microbiomes" announced by the federal government in December.

Microbiomes

The NCCR “Microbiomes”, jointly led by EPFL and ETHZ, will investigate interactions within the complex microbial communities - microbiomes - that provide functions essential to the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment.

Within this NCCR, involving 23 research groups from across Switzerland, Stocker’s group will apply microfluidic and imaging technology as well as mathematical modelling to better understand how microbial communities are shaped by their environment and in turn shape our environment.
