Research area
Yamini Patankar is a Conservation Architect currently pursuing her PhD at ETH Zurich. She has completed her Master of Architecture (Conservation) from the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal. Her research is focused on fostering multidisciplinary collaboration by integrating modern technology and visualization techniques in the preservation of built heritage.
Patankar is exploring different approaches to leverage modern visualization technologies, like extended reality (AR and VR) and Building Information Modeling (BIM), to adress complex questions at various scales in the preservation of historic sites. Integrating recent developments in BIM, XR, and Material Science of Conservation within conservation workflow will greatly improve the assessment of the state of monuments, the documentation of patterns and risks of degradation, and the most effective means of preservation. The research will initially focus on monuments with clay-bearing sandstones, a particularly sensitive material of central importance in the national built heritage of Switzerland as well as India.
Patankar's academic achievements include recognition at the undergraduate level with the COA National awards for excellence (Zone 3) in her thesis project. Furthermore, her selection as a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship holder has allowed her to pursue her passion for conservation while fostering exchanges between the two countries. She is committed to contributing to this field through her research, aiming to share her findings with both academic and professional audiences to support the ongoing preservation of architectural heritage.
